Before I even knew what work was I wanted to be a veterinarian. Dogs in particular, but all animals in general, have been my passion forever. Through the twists and turns of life did not result in vetinary school for me, they have allowed me to pursue my passion for dogs in another way.
When I used to dream of what kind of dog's I'd like to have when I could finally have one, Corgis were always on my list. When I saw my first Cardigan Corgi I was smitten and the love affair only grew stronger when I started my research to find just the right one. What a delightful breed, compact in size, but large in personality and joyful as the day is long.
My first Cardi, Bounder (Davenitch Bounding Shortdog), has been all that and more. I was led by forces on high, to Connie Whan of Davenitch Cardigans ans not only did I find my lovely Bounder, but a wonderful steadfast friend as well. And, I got to learn the "Happy Dance" from Kerri Carter, the other half of Daventich. Two nicest people you'll ever meet. Cardi people are just like that I've found out.
Bounder's first show at 6 months resulted in a major win over a special and we have never looked back. He finished his Championship (with me as a first time handler) exactly one year later at the same show having been lightly shown. What a thrill!! It was worth the wait. At Bounder's first Cardigan Welsh Corgi National dog show, her earned a certificateverifying his instinct of herding. He is surley a dog for all seasons. Currently Bounder is being shown lightly as a special and in training for a Tracking title and having lots of fun.
My next cardi was Gracie(Cerridwen Amazing Grace) and she has also been a wonderful companion and example of the breed. At this writing she is only a few points from her Championship as well. She wasrecently bred to Harvey (Mariel's Harvest Moon) and whelped 5 gorgeous, happy, and healthy pups who are currently looking forvery special forever homes. I have cometo a new and much deeper appreciation for Gracie through this process. She has been an outstanding mother, attentive, nuturingand instructive. Seeing her play with her pups reminds me again of how deeply I care for my 4-legged family.
I will be keeping a puppy to continue my fun participating in dog showing and in the future I do intend to breed again. However,I will be breeding only for my own needs for these wonderful joyful creatures are my family firstand show dogs was down the list. My intent is not to make puppies, but to work to improve this terrific breed.
